GALERIE HISTORISMUS, guided by its artistic advisor Roberto Polo (member of the S.N.A.: Syndicat National des Antiquaires, Négociants en Objets d'Art, Tableaux anciens et modernes de France), specializes in 19th & early 20th century European decorative arts. It is located in the "étage noble" of the prestigious Hôtel de Chaulnes, a landmark mansion built in 1612, on the historical Place des Vosges (formerly the Place Royale), the oldest square in Paris. In the same year that he was appointed the king's architect, Jules Hardouin Mansart was commissioned by the Duc and Duchesse de Chaulnes to add a wing and gardens to their mansion. Louis XIV and the queen often visited the Hôtel de Chaulnes. Madame de Sevigné wrote about the somptuous feasts that the Duc and Duchesse de Chaulnes gave in their magnificent mansion filled with extraordinary works of art. Two of the four rooms occupied by the gallery are on the Supplementary List of French Historical Monuments: The Salon Carré and the Salle des Gypseries. GALERIE HISTORISMUS counts among its clients important public and private collections.
